Phuket's infrastructure and what it means for buyers

Why does infrastructure matter? Connectivity drives both livability and rental demand. How easily guests reach a property, and how quickly owners reach the airport, schools and hospitals, feeds directly into occupancy and resale appeal.

The airport is the gateway. Phuket International Airport (HKT) in the far north handles the island's international arrivals. Northern areas (Nai Yang, Nai Thon, Mai Khao, Layan) are closest to it — a genuine convenience for frequent flyers and short-stay rentals — while the south is a longer transfer. Weigh airport access against beach and lifestyle preferences.

Roads and traffic. Phuket is compact but its main arteries congest in peak season, and coastal roads are winding. "Distance" on a map is not "time" on the ground, especially west-coast hills. Always check the real peak-hour drive time between your property and the places you'll use daily.

Planned upgrades. Various road, expressway and public-transport improvements have been discussed over the years. Treat announced projects as a potential long-horizon upside, not a certainty — verify the current status and timeline before pricing them into a decision.

How should a buyer use this? Prioritise real connectivity to your daily anchors (airport, schools, hospitals), sanity-check peak-hour drive times, and view big infrastructure promises as optional upside rather than a reason to pay a premium today.
